About
I am an early medieval historian, who writes history from both texts and material evidence. My most recent book, Britain After Rome, published by Penguin, came out in hardback in the UK last fall, and was released in the US and in paperback in May, 2011.
I am now working on a book on "the lost world of things," which explores the ways in which the study of different categories of "things" (i.e., Roman metalwork that has been recycled; things found in the graves of fifth-century women and children; things made from glass) helps us re-imagine the early medieval past.
I am the conference director of the Haskins Society Conference, which meets annually at Boston College. For information on the conference and this November's program, please see: http://haskinsatbostoncollege.blogspot.com/
If you have questions about next fall's conference, please email me.
