About
Kevin Ahern, a doctoral candidate in theological ethics at Boston College, is concerned with the theological significance of Catholic social movements as well as the ethical questions surrounding humanitarian aid; the relationship between human rights and Catholic social teaching; the significance of pneumatology in social ethics; the social dimensions of grace; and the future of global governance.
Upon graduating from Fordham in 2003, Kevin was elected as the International President of the International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS-Pax Romana), one of the largest recognized lay associations in the Church (www.imcs-miec.org) . From 2003 to 2007, he worked to empower national student associations in over 80 countries worldwide and to represent them to different Vatican and United Nations bodies.
Kevin has also served in leadership roles in a number of civil society and academic networks and associations including the Forum of Catholic-Inspired NGOs; the Conference of International Catholic Organizations (CICO); the International Coordination Meeting of Youth Organizations (ICMYO); the Conference of NGOs (CONGO); and the Murray Circle at BC. Presently, Kevin is on the advisory committees of the Boston College Center for the Church in the 21st Century and the Catholic Common Ground Initiative.
In 2008, Kevin was elected to the International Council of the International Catholic Movement for Intellectual and Cultural Affairs, (ICMICA-Pax Romana), a global network of Catholic intellectuals and professionals (www.icmica-miic.org).
Kevin has led a number of academic and educational workshops and presentations and has published numerous articles on questions relating to Christian ethics; Catholic social teaching; the ethics of Catholic organizations; and the empowerment of the laity. Kevin is also the editor of The Radical Bible (Orbis Books, 2009).
